Our Lying President

By Jim Hightower

May 28, 2003 --

WHAT A Wonderland World it is in Washington! Wrong can be right, down can be up, a lie can be truth -- all because the president says it's so.

Our present president seems to love to lie. Not because George W likes doing wrong, but because lies simplify his life, turning his confusion into clarity. I think he even believes his lies when he speaks them, and when he gets caught lying, hey -- that's in the past, it's just a technicality, and besides... it depends on how you define "truth."

How about the big truth of WMDs? Where are those tons of Weapons of Mass Destruction that George W so absolutely insisted Saddam Hussein had targeted at the U.S., posing the imminent threat that was his moral excuse for invading Iraq?

It's a scream to watch the Bushites now try to squirm out of the inconvenient reality that they've found no masses of WMDs in Iraq. Lately they've tried to claim every slingshot, trailor, empty casing, and barbeque pit they come across as "proof" of Saddam's WMD program.

But when launching his Iraq Attack, George didn't talk about such small stuff -- he spoke specifically about a "mushroom cloud" that Saddam would ignite in America. The Bushites also flatly asserted that Saddam had 500 tons of mustard gas, 25,000 liters of anthrax, 30,000 rockets to deliver chemical weapons, dozens of scud missiles, 18 biological warfare factories, all sorts of long-range missiles and other WMDs -- that now can't be found.

First they claimed that Saddam hid them, then that he took them with him (how, in his backback?). But now, the Bushites say it doesn't matter -- we kicked Saddam's butt and that's all anyone needs to know. Doesn't matter? The president blatantly lied to We The People and it's OK? What moral message are the Bushites sending to America's children and the people of the world?

Lies don't make truth, and might doesn't make right -- even if a president says they do.

There is a difference between lying and being wrong. If President Bush turns out to have been wrong, I will expect him to apologize. I haven't seen evidence of lies yet. Can you come up with any? What I remember is that Saddam had not accounted as required for the missing chemical weapons and their components. And I remember that the Bush administration believed that he had WMDs.

Bush was so sure that Saddam had WMD that we had to go to war immediately to prevent attacks on the US. He kept claiming that through, and even after the war. Now those WMD are nowhere to be found. Was Bush lying? Or is the administration merely that incompetent? I'm not sure I'm that excited about either alternative.

I remember WMD's being used on Iranian, and Kurdish citizens. The first inspectors found evidence of chemical Anthrax, botulism, and a couple more. But no matter, people that want to beleive something wrong or right can't have their minds changed. Information is out there for all to see and access at will. Most just like to postulate and scream in your face to advance their own beliefs. That is what is so great about this nation (SO FAR)we still have a few freedoms left but they will be gone soon. Because the people that holler the loudest are products of a failed and deteriorating education system that has gone down hill for the last 30 years. It has left most out in the cold as far as having the common sense and ability to look read and study what is really happening around them. World events and politics are so foreign to some they won't find out the real facts.

I am convinced the United States has become the land of OZ. So many Wizards in the land of OZ,so many tin men and women,so many cowardly lions,so many brainless scarcrows,so many gullible, naive, delusional Dorthy's,so many munchkins repeating over and over again what they hear from all of the Wizards who run the country of Oz.Have you noticed the wicked witch is from the east? The west only has good witches like Glinda. All those munchkins are mighty scared cuz the wizard keeps them scared with color coded alerts and predictions about all those wicked witches from the east. Poor OZ.

I am amazed at the lack of concern regarding this subject: WMDs. We were told these weapons existed, and that they still may be hidden somewhere in Iraq. Let's be reasonable. If you were a leader of a country, any country, and you were being invaded by a foreign power. You supposedly have WMDs. You went to great pains and risk to build these weapons. So would you, a)give them too your neighbor, b)stick them in the ground somewhere, or c)use them to defend your country. If the guy had those toys, he would have selected c. If that pathetic figure they pulled out of the hole a few weeks ago is what we were afraid of, we're wasting an awful lot of money on the military budget. Did Bush lie? I hope so. The alternative is incompetent leadership...much scarier than a lie. Oh well, I guess as long as Americans are willing to sacrifice (without question) their family members in locations of the world that offer not threat to our security, the Bush's will continue to enjoy their freedom.

I think the real question after the President's Press Conference on 4/13/2004 is whether he is a pathological liar or hopelessly incompetent. In either case, I don't want him running the country anymore.

Mister BUSH lies so much it is =DISGUSTING= !!! Every day, another lie. The sad thing is, the Christians who believe he is sincere in his belief. He found religion only because he knew it was a prerequeset to getting into politics. WE MUST VOTE OUT THIS "SELECTED" PRESIDENT !! I'm voting for a Veteran who actually served our country. I am proudly supporting Senator John F. Kerry!
