King County proposes speed limit changes

THE KING COUNTY Department of Transportation is proposing to change speed limits in four locations in east and south King County.

In the Soos Creek area, the county wants to temporarily reduce the speed limit on two sections of 140th Avenue Southeast for road construction safety. The reduction would be in effect while construction is ongoing on the roadway—approximately through the summer of 2004.

Near Snoqualmie, the county is proposing to increase the speed limits on roads connecting the Snoqualmie Ridge area to Interstate 90 to be consistent with other road speeds in the area.

The locations and proposed speed limit changes are:

• Reducing the speed limit from 40 mph to 30 mph on 140th Avenue Southeast between Petrovitsky Road and Southeast 192nd Street;
• Changing from 35 mph to 30 mph on 140th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 192nd Street and Southeast 200th Street;
• Increasing the limit from 30 mph to 40 mph on Echo Glen Road from Interstate 90 to Southeast 96th Street, which is currently posted at 30 mph; and
• Changing from 35 mph to 40 mph on Snoqualmie Parkway from Southeast 96th Street to the Snoqualmie City limits.

The department will hold a public hearing about this proposal on Thursday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 2A of the King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle.
