$17 million dollar facility announced

New Retirement Community for Lake City

Jan 20, 2003 -- Stratford Properties LLC, and Sound Health Management, Inc., have announced plans for a $ 17-million, 98,000-square-foot rental retirement residence at 9001 Lake City Way NE. The groundbreaking is scheduled for Friday, January 28 at 11:30am.

Expected to open December 2005, the 4-story project caters to seniors looking for a community that offers a variety of amenities and levels of care. The community is specifically designed to serve independent, assisted living and memory care residents.

"There are not enough options for retirees with needs that vary from independent living, through assisted living, and specialized dementia care," said Rick Skelton, Sound Health Management president. "This project will provide moderate-income housing and a needed continuum of care in the North Seattle Community."

Located in the vibrant Maple Leaf community, the facility is within short distance to Northwest Hospital, medical facilities and Northgate Mall. The Stratford at Maple Leaf will offer seniors a state-of-the-art facility, built from the ground up to serve seniors' special needs, whether they are looking for a community of friendly faces, or the assistance of health care staff. In addition, the new residence will offer residents a variety of amenities and activities, including three meals a day in the dining room, a fitness center, outdoor terraces, library, café, beauty parlor and spa facilities, weekly linen service, an activities coordinator, shopping outings and social events.

"The Stratford at Maple Leaf will offer a wide spectrum of in-house services and amenities," George Webb, Stratford Properties CEO, said. "Our philosophy encourages each resident to age in place. This style of gracious community living allows residents to live as independently as possible with a full complement of professional staff on duty to provide services to each resident as necessary. This way, our residents maintain choice and dignity in their lives."

The Stratford will feature 119 units with a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, typically about 390 square feet to 890 square feet. A dedicated floor will offer a Memory Care Program serving residents with Alzheimer's disease, dementia or other memory-related disorders. Residents in Memory Care will have their own dining facilities, activities room, and outdoor garden patio. Rental charges, which include all services and care average $3,800 per month.

"We are excited to be a part of the community and have chosen a wonderful site," Skelton said. "We feel that the residents will truly benefit from this much-needed facility."
