Dining Out

3 Squares

Oct 20, 1999 -- Breakfast in Ballard

The Dish, 4358 Leary Way, 782-9985

You've noticed The Dish if you've driven past Leary Way & 8th Avenue NW on a weekend morning. Rain or shine there's a disorganized line of freshly scrubbed, casually dressed 20-30 year olds waiting to get in, eat a good breakfast and trade dish with their buddies. The Dish offers classic breakfasts including homemade biscuits with gravy, great pancakes, french toast and eggs turned over gently. Everybody there seems to be having a good time, including the cooks and the wait staff.

Lunch in Queen Anne (& Roosevelt)

Pete's Pizza, The Calzone King 2 locations 1919 Queen Avenue North, 284-7705 and 5301 Roosevelt Way N.E., 522-8828

What, exactly, is a calzone, you might ask. Roughly speaking, it's a big dough pocket filled with cheese tomato sauce and other goodies which you can specify. At Pete's, it's a tasty, filling meal that can satisfy a large hungry person, or in some cases two medium sized moderately hungry persons. Pete's is justly famous for its calzone, and their pizza is excellent too.

Dinner in Greenwood

La Piazza, 6722 Greenwood Ave N. Seattle WA 98103

Greenwood folks are lucky to have this cozy little moderately priced pizza and pasta restaurant just down the street or around the corner. La Piazza has a wide range of pasta dishes, including seafood fettucines and homemade ravioli. Their pizzas have a delicate homemade crust and are made with all fresh ingredients.

Georgia's 323 NW 85th, 783-1228

Classic Greek food expertly made in a cheery dining room with big windows. For the best combination of appetite and ambiance, go on music night when Hank Bradley and Cathie Whitesides fill the room with sparkling Greek and Balkan music. Don't be surprised if the people at the next table get up and dance. Don't be surprised if you feel like getting up and dancing too. Bring the kids. Its a family sort of place. The food is great.
