Casino Opens In Shoreline

Jul 15, 1998 -- Ballard resident Mark Mitchell has opened a new casino, Drift-On Inn, at 167th and Aurora Ave. N.

The casino is operated by Mitchell and his three sons, Bobby, Michael and Quinn, all partners in the venture, which also includes Mark's wife, Joann, Bobby's wife, Karen, and Mark's daughter, Debby.

All graduated from Ballard High School and "were raised on Zesto's hamburgers," Mitchell said.

Games at 15 tables include blackjack, Caribbean stud, "Let It Ride," progressive blackjack, and different limits for poker. It also has the largest collection of pulltabs in the state.

The casino is open 24 hours a day. The decor includes a 175-year-old, solid oak, antique bar and a 20-foot-high TV screen. Mitchell purchased the 28-foot-long bar in New York for $125,000.

The casino features dancing Thursday through Saturday nights.

The restaurant's menu includes meatloaf, pot roast, chicken-fried steak, and prime rib. A soda fountain serves hand dipped milkshakes in the tin.
