Dining Out

3 Squares

Feb 09, 2000 -- Breakfast in Wallingford

Theo and Patty Papadoulos, who ran a very popular breakfast spot in Greenwood for several years, have opened Patty's Eggnest at 2202 N 45th St. in Wallingford (across the street from Rite-Aid.)

Breakfast at Patty's Eggnest feels like being welcomed home after driving all night. The fresh hot coffee starts pouring as soon as you walk in the door. Theo runs the grill while Patty wields the coffee and the conversation. A simple breakfast of eggs over easy with whole wheat toast and Theo's excellent golden brown hashbrowns will keep you going until lunchtime or later. If you're really starved, omelettes, hotcakes and French toast round out the menu. You'll see why they have won awards for their eggs.

Open every day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lunch on Aurora

You may have noticed Koryo at 12020 Aurora Ave. N while driving down Aurora. The building looks authentically and intriguingly Korean.

Try the Bulgogi, which is barbecued beef. They give you lots of it, lightly seasoned and sprinkled with sesame seeds. It comes with a huge pile of rice, pickled radish slivers, two kinds of excellent homemade kimchee, a pot sticker and a variety of other tasty treats. Koryo serves genuine, high-quality Korean cuisine.

The place is warm and inviting, and well organized. Most of the lunch items are $5 to $8. Tea comes with lunch, or you can have drinks for a little extra. The food is too good to call it a fast food joint, but the service is fast and efficient.

Open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Dinner in Ballard

In the heart of the Ballard industrial waterfront, you will find the newly remodeled and renamed Yankee Grill. Just south of NW Market Street at 5300 NW 24th Ave., the restaurant sports a gorgeous view of the ship canal. The expanded (read: enormous) menu includes many favorites from the Yankee Diner days. Have no fear, the pot roast is still here! Dinner selections include steaks--one of the steak offerings is actually portabello mushrooms--, seafood and salads. The grilled Mahi Mahi with apricot glaze is exceptional, served with jasmine rice on a puddle of light, savory-sweet peanut sauce. Desserts lean towards the rich, but save some room--they're done right.

Open from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. every day; the full bar is open until 11 p.m.

The breakfast and lunch sounds great. I'm intrigued at the way this is written. It inspires me to go there. Thanks
