Dining Out

Breakfast in Greenwood

For a quick latte and a fresh homemade Danish right out of the oven, stop in at the Greenwood Bakery, 7227 Greenwood Ave, conveniently located at a bus stop in case you are on your way downtown to work. They also offer great muffins, bagels and croissants. Make yourself popular in the office by taking in a bag of goodies to share once in awhile.

Lunch in Loyal Heights

Cascioppo's Italian Meat Market at 2364 NW 80th St is one of the few places in Seattle you can get a genuine old-fashioned Italian meatball sandwich. This sandwich is a meal in itself. It requires two hands and a lot of napkins to enjoy it properly.
Cascioppo's is also one of the few places in Seattle where you can get a Dr. Brown's celery soda. When you are equipped with a great meatball sandwich or a classic Italian Hero and a Dr. Brown's, you might think you are back in Brooklyn again. Cascioppo's has a handsome meat case including already-stuffed-for-you pork chops, Chicken Kiev and flank steak roulades for you to take home and cook for family members or astonished guests who never dreamed you were so culinarily gifted.

Dinner on Aurora

El Centavo is a new family-style Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood at 4705 Aurora Ave N. It's operated by Oscar and Helen Sahagun, originally from Jalisco, Mexico. El Centavo represents a life long dream for the Sahagun's.
The first thing that strikes you is the unique salsa, which comes with the chips as soon as you sit down. It is home made with all fresh ingredients as is the very fine guacamole. Beef enchiladas swimming in an unusually tasty spice sauce are a good bet, as is the the specialty of the house, Zacateca chicken cooked with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. The chicken was tender and filled with the flavors from the tasty stew of fresh vegetables. Prices are very reasonable. You can eat well for $12 including a glass of wine or one of several Mexican beers they have on hand. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
