Restaurant ReviewsDining Out3 SquaresMar 22, 2000 -- Breakfast in Lake CityIn Lake City, Claire's Pantry at 12360 Lake City Way NE is breakfast central. Whole families pile in on weekend mornings for Belgian waffles, pancakes and Claire's special 3-egg omelettes with Italian, Mexican or other fillings. Many choose the classic ham-and-egg or steak-and-egg platters. Claire's makes its own pastries, including their famous cinnamon rolls. On weekday mornings the spacious restaurant is filled with the clatter and chatter of people heading off to work down the street or downtown. The experienced waitstaff is fast and cheerful. Open from 8 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. Breakfast served at all hours.
Lunch in Fremont Patillo's NY Bistro at 770 N. 34th St. is a wonderful little sandwich and espresso cafe located in the the back of Wit's End Bookstore, across from the Adobe complex in Fremont. We ordered the two-steps-above-excellent sandwich of smoked turkey, vermont cheddar and red onion. It came with a tasty salad and a free can of soda for $6.25. They also make pizza-like items using indian flatbread for the crust, homemade tomato sauce and whole milk mozzarella. We didn't have one, but don't they sound interesting? We'll try one on my next visit, which will be soon. Soups, pastries and "noshes" complete the menu. Open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dinner in Greenwood Cornbread and the greens are a vital part of any meal of southern barbecue. If you are not able to roam around your plate a little and sample various tastes and textures, even the best barbecue is not as good as it could be. At the OK Corral in Greenwood, you don't have to worry. Not only is the barbecue excellent but the side dishes are on the same high culinary level. The cornbread is sweet and moist, the greens have a mild smoky flavor and the slight tang that results from boiling the bitterness away. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth good with a not too sweet, not too hot barbecue sauce. Altogether, an intensely satisfying meal. The OK Corral is at 8733 Greenwood Ave. N.
Hours are approximately 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. but the OK staff promises that "anytime somebody walks in, we'll make sure they get fed."
