Lake City Builds Again After Devastating Fire

Apr 05, 2000 -- A new six-story building at Northeast 125th Street and Lake City Way Northeast will have street level retail stores, plus 10,000 square feet of office space upstairs and 39 apartments. The building will be named the Rehki after its owners Jo and Rani Rehki. The previous building on the site was destroyed by fire in 1998.

"That corner is at the heart of our community," according to Russ Foisy, president of the Lake City Chamber of Commerce.

High-ceiling stores and wide awnings will invite retail window shopping and a corner plaza will encourage people to linger and stroll, according to Mark Simpson of Bumgardner, the architectural firm hired to design the building. Tully's Coffee will be the corner tenant. Move-in is estimated for April, 2001.
