Towboat Launched in Fremont

Apr 05, 2000 -- Western Towboat launched a new 500 ton ocean-going towboat in Fremont on March 17. The 110'-long Pacific Titan will move barges up to Alaska and back. The ship is powered by twin caterpillar 3516B engines putting out 2260 horsepower each at 1600 RPMs. Western Towboat has been building and operating ships in Fremont since 1948. The company is owned by Bob and Rick Shrewsbury and employs 100 people.
