Jun 15, 2000 -- Breakfast in Fremont

A weekend breakfast at Barlees, 3410 Fremont Ave N, is a real treat. We had Fremont's favorite crepe--filled with sour cream, topped with orange liqueur, suzette and seasonal strawberries--two for only $5.45, or you can get three for $6.35. Barlee's serves fresh squeezed orange or apple juice and Seattle's Best Coffee. Or try the Fremont Gourmet Omelette--eggs wrapped around a tasty combination of artichoke hearts, mushrooms, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, priced right at $5.75. Barlee's also serves eggs benedict, Belgian waffles, French toast, country fresh eggs, and veggie omelettes. If you're not a breakfast person, go back for lunch and sink your teeth into the Gyro combo, California burger or California chicken burger. The Hummus Pita combo sounds great for our next lunch.

Open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10:00.p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Lunch in Fremont

The Steak sub was on special with free chips and a cookie for only $4.99, and it was very good. So the next day I tried the homemade soup and 1/2 sandwich for only $3.75, and it was great too! But when I tried the French Dip for only $3.95, I knew I would be back soon for another one. A grande double mocha or double Irish cream latte goes well with all the sandwiches. 110 percent beef burgers with fries and gyro sandwiches are also available. M & S Deli & Grocery at 418 N 36th St. has more than 36 microbrews to choose from, and a pretty good dinner wine selection. A quick ham and cheese breakfast croissant is yours for $1.39, and a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit is available for $1.25. You can also buy sliced cold cuts and cheeses to order, with some noodle or potato salad and snack food for your own picnic. All you have to remember is the ice cooler and friends.

Dinner in Fremont

Sergio's Mexican Cuisine in the Adobe Building at 701 N 34th St. has the chips stacked in their favor, with red and green salsas too. I had to try the Troll Salad, a crispy homemade flour tortilla filled with chicken, topped with lettuce, Monterey jack cheese, sour cream, guacamole, olives and tomatoes, and served with fresh fruit for $6.25. The Fremont Burrito special sounded great for my next trip at only $4.95, and you can watch the tortillas being made as you enjoy the appetizers. The Pollo Al Carbon is a boneless breast of chicken marinated with fresh herbs, charbroiled and finished with a creamy chipotle sauce (a chipotle is a smoked jalapeno with a rich, strong spiciness, balanced nicely by the mild cream). Chimichangas are also available for a low as $5.95. Hours are Monday - Thursday 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. - 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. and Sunday noon - 9 p.m.
