Molly Cadranell
|
Jul 27, 2000 --
Molly Cadranell, owner of Cadranell's Yacht Landing, was one of three individuals who recently received Environmental Achievement Awards from the Waste Information Network (WIN).
Cadranell has been a longtime, energetic champion for clean water and environmentally responsible boating. Her Lake Union facility was one of the first marina communities to design best management practices for marinas to protect Northwest waterways. Cadranell also worked with Puget Soundkeeper Alliance to produce a statewide manual for marinas and collaborated with the Department of Ecology on their subsequent Ship Shape Program. As president of the Association of Independent Moorages, Cadranell helped lead local activities for the National Clean Boating Campaign.
The awards ceremony took place June 7 at the Space Needle. Keynote speaker Dr. Richard Gammon, Professor of Chemistry and Oceanography and Adjunct Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington, offered a unique link to pollution prevention through his work on global climate change. Presenting the awards was Kathy Keolker-Wheeler, member of the Renton city council, vice-president of the Suburban Cities of King County Coalition, and chair of the management committee for the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County.
The Waste Information Network began in 1987 as a forum for small business, environmental service vendors, public interest groups, trade associations, government agencies and others to collaborate on waste management issues. WIN has sponsored the Environmental Achievement Awards since 1990. Winners minimize use of hazardous materials, develop less hazardous products and foster an environmental ethic among employees, industry and the community.
