Women in Boating Featured at Lake Union Boats Afloat Show September 13 - 17

Aug 09, 2000 -- Some of the largest, most luxurious sailboats and power yachts in the Northwest will float into Chandler's Cove September 13-17 for the 2000 Lake Union Boats Afloat Show. The show, which has become known for its ability to attract large "dream boats," also offers attendees a bevy of mid-sized boats.

Friday, September 15, has been designated "Women in Boating Day." Jo Bailey, a Seattle native with over 40 years of sailing experience, will share "how-to" and "where-to" sailing tips. She is the co-author of Gunkholing in the San Juan Islands and Gunkholing in South Puget Sound. For boating novices, "gunkholing" is defined as relaxed cruising from small basin to small basin.

Attendees more interested in power than wind power will find a selection of larger craft second to none.

Winning and honorable mention photographs of the second annual lake Union Boats Afloat Show amateur photo contest will be on display. To be eligible for the judging, amateur photographers must enter their photos of boat racing, cruising and/or scenic marine environments at any Bartell Drugs location before August 15. More information is available on the web at www.boatsafloatshow.com.

The five-day show opens on September 13 and runs through September 17, 2000. Show hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekend. Admission is free, but those wanting to board boats must purchase a "boarding pass" for $8.00 (single day pass) or $15.00 (multi-day pass).
