Local Businesses do the Right Thing
New Leadership Hired At Fairmont TerraceAug 09, 2000 --
Fairmont Terrace, an assisted-living and Alzheimer's community, recently named Carole Kelley, MSW as General Manager and Susan Glass Burdick as Community Relations Director.
After receiving her Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Washington, Kelley worked in human services planning for several years with United Way of King County. During this tenure, her planning work had a special focus on Long Term Care and other issues currently challenging the elderly. Her career background includes stints as a public school teacher and as manager of Mario's, a clothing store in downtown Seattle.
Burdick has worked extensively throughout the Puget Sound area and Russia. Following a career in theater, she focused on marketing and fundraising as the president of Global Arts Network, a company specializing in training and consultation for Russian arts organizations. Prior to joining Fairmont Terrace, Burdick also worked with United Way of King County.
Long-Time Local Funeral Homes Announce Partnership
Green Lake Funeral Home, established in 1919, and Wiggen and Sons Funeral Home, established in 1909, recently announced their new partnership. They have joined together to strengthen their professional services and preserve their independence in the rapidly changing funeral service industry. The two companies have served the Green Lake and Ballard neighborhoods for nearly a century.
The partnership commenced in June, with Green Lake Funeral Home relocating from its previous location on Woodlawn Avenue Northeast to the Ballard home of Wiggen and Sons Funeral Home at 2003 NW 57th St., two blocks north of Market Street.
Business/Child Care Partnership Recognizes Local Companies
GM Nameplate and C.A. Newell Co., Inc. were given awards of appreciation recently by the Business/Child Care Partnership (B/CCP) in recognition of their donations to the Interlake Center in Green Lake.
C.A. Newell, a wholesaler of floor, wall and countertop materials, donated and installed new carpet for the facility. GM Nameplate, a graphics, printing and manufacturing company, refurbished the center's playground equipment so that it meets Washington Department of Health standards for preschooler use.
The Business/Child Care Partnership is dedicated to improving the quality of child care by facilitating partnerships and an exchange of resources between business and child care. It is a project of Child Care Resources, a non-profit organization funded in part by the City of Seattle's Human Services Department.
