U.S. Bank Site Picked for New Ballard Library
Oct 04, 2000 --
The Seattle Public Library board of trustees has picked the U.S. Bank property at 22nd Avenue Northwest and Northwest 56th Street as the site for the new Ballard library branch.
The site is just down the street from the Safeway site at 22nd Avenue Northwest and Northwest 57th Street, which will become a new city park.
U.S. Bank hopes to share the site with the library and offices for the Ballard Neighborhood Service Center, according to Barbara Nombalais, vice president for public relations for the bank. "But in any case, we're planning to stay in Ballard and continue to serve our customers here," she said.
The Library Board took the unanimous vote at its September 26 meeting to clear the way for library staff to begin property negotiations, though the board has not yet made a final site decision.
The new $6.5 million library, which is scheduled to open in 2002, will have more seats, expanded reference areas, larger areas for children and young adults, more computer space, an expanded collection, a 90-seat meeting room and more parking.
