Wallingford Neighbors Plant Street Trees

Nov 30, 2000 -- Neighborhood volunteers brought future summer shade to Burke Avenue North in Wallingford in early November when they planted several new street trees. The city Department of Neighborhoods supplies the trees. Neighbors provide the labor. Trees can add 20 percent to the value of a home; they filter dust and pollution, absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, said Shireen Deboo of the Tree Fund. Above, Terri Masterjohn and Julia Tracey (foreground), Kathy Calm and Russel Ruby (middle group) and Nancy Merrill, Theodore Barnhart and Ourie Malliris (farthest group) and other volunteers planted 17 trees.
