Musical Mystery
Dec 13, 2000 --
A piano seems to have crashed into a front yard on 6th Avenue Northwest in Ballard. Homeowner Jerome Kane, a furniture maker, offered conflicting explanations on how the piano got there. "I have some musician friends who are angry with me, and they may have done it," he told The Seattle Press. "They're good musicians, but they're not very good terrorists," he added.
However, Kane also said he was involved in a bitter dispute with a philharmonic orchestra where he formerly worked as a pianist. "I quit, and we had an argument about who owned the piano. Finally they said, 'Okay, it's yours,' and said they would deliver it."

RIP Jerome. I miss you. I'm reading more Kerouac and am writing (as you advised). I remember this piano incident...but I thought the piano simply fell from the sky. A gift from the heavens delivered to your front yard. I hope you can hear beautiful music, wherever you are. |

I JUST HEARD TODAY THAT I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PATCH THINGS UP WITH YOU. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, I THOUGHT THER'D BE TIME. YOU PUSHED ME AWAY LIKE YOU DID SO MANY OF US,BUT I NEVER STOPPED HOLDING YOU IN A VERY SPECIAL LIGHT, HOWEVER PAINFUL IT WAS TO WATCH YOU GO THROUGH YOUR MANY TRANSITIONS. I HOPE YOU DIED SOBER AND DRUG-FREE AND FOUND A BIT OF PEACE AND HAPPINESS BEFORE YOU WENT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN, WHERE, OR HOW YOU DIED. I WILL MISS MY REALLY CRAZY FRIEND, AND WILL CHERISH THE FEW THINGS YOU MADE FOR ME, ALONG WITH GREAT PHOTOS OF MY GRANDCHILDREN. OUCH . I WISH YOU WERE HERE. MAYBE YOU ARE. |

Jerome, a man who has taught me almost everything I know.
Despite the bad, your love and wisdom will always prevail.
Your voice echoes within me all the time; you are everywhere.
You have given me and everyone the greatest gift by knowing you, with your unfledging thirst for truth, and above all, Love.
Thank you.
Seattle misses you very much.
Love,
Pants
