Jan 24, 2001 -- A Fraternity Row-area resident returns home at 3:53 a.m. As he nears his house, he sees a man with his right fist wrapped in a towel, standing next to a white Camry with about three other men inside. The man with the towel approaches a white VW van and hits the windows with his wrapped fist, but they do not break. He walks to the next car, a Toyota Corolla, and hits the rear window, but it, too, stays intact. He then hits the driver's door window, which breaks. At this point, the man sees the witness approaching and says, "What's up, is this your car?" The witness says no, and the man jumps into the Camry and drives away northbound. Total damage to the Corolla is $300...

A Metro bus driver is piloting his coach up 24th Avenue Northwest at 6:40 p.m. on a Sunday. A man gets on just north of Market Street and stands staring at the driver. He appears intoxicated and the driver, wishing to avoid trouble, tells the man to get off the bus. The man refuses, and the driver threatens to call police if the man does not leave. The intoxicated man assumes a fighting stance with clenched fists and tells the driver he'll give him a real reason to call the police. The driver stands up, not wanting to get cold-cocked while sitting behind the wheel. The suspect then leaves the bus, calling the driver a "fucking faggot," and flees eastbound on Northwest 57th Street. Police arrive but are unable to locate the suspect...

A security officer working at a grocery store on Aurora Avenue North detains a woman who is trying to purchase a package of mis-marked seafood on a Sunday evening at 9 p.m. The store has noticed losses in the seafood and meat departments, and on this day a checker called him to her checkout stand when the suspect attempted to buy a white-paper-wrapped package priced at $3.50 with no price per pound or weight indicated. The suspect tells the guard the package contains halibut, however, when he opens it he finds that it contains spotted prawns, a much more expensive item. He takes the suspect to the store office, where she makes out a written statement saying that a seafood clerk told her he would give her a good deal. The statement says she asked for shrimp, but he told her to try the prawns, that they were good. The security guard tells the woman she is "trespassed" from the store and lets her go.

The seafood clerk is brought in and confronted with the evidence. He says he made a mistake. He is placed under arrest for theft of the price difference between the marked price of $3.50 and the actual value of the package, about $21. He is booked into jail...
