A collection of Australian Aboriginal dot paintings will be on display at Barlee's Restaurant, 3410 Fremont Ave. N, through April 29. The paintings focus extensively on portraying aerial views of the Australian landscape. Recurring symbols such as concentric circles symbolize water holes and other natural features.

I am an Aboriginal person who enjoys painting and completing Aboriginal art in a contemporary style. I am also a visual arts teacher in primary school. I would be happy to talk about ideas and use of imagery and symbols common to different Aboriginal styles in Australia - eg Western Desert Art versus Art of the Top End, traditional versus contemporary and use of line, colour and repetition. i am an Aboringinal girl from a small community through my art work I beleive that I am educating people where we come from and our way of life. I just read (cow, may 18 2003)is that you should see for yourself before you paint us all with the one brush. |

To understand aboriginal art you got to understand my people. My ancestor's been raped, mudered, most of our culture taken away eg our langue our sacret sites our hunting and camping grounds. Even the children (that's our half white half black babies,that were made from rape) were taken from my people.The only thing that we got left is ancient artifacts, alittle knowledge of our own langue,and our art work (so please dont take that away from us too).yes I am an aboriginal artist I may not be able to spell but I can paint and that was the only thing besides our history and our dreamtime stories I was taught about. It's good to see that there are people who are interested in our culture. And to those who are ignorant don't go by what you heard about my people came and experince it for yourself.My people are not the savages they made us out to be.
