Bush Plan Boosts US Tourism!

By Sandy Bradley

Apr 18, 2001 -- Millions of Americans planning to visit abroad this year will be Seeing America First instead. Bush's stand on CO2 omissions has angered Europeans, Asians ... just about everybody. The Even Uglier American will feel very unwelcome and should expect the sins of the few to be avenged on the many. After all, we elected, er, appointed him. Get on the web and check some international newspapers, or buy one at the newsstand. They're really angry!

In a world of global corporations, Bush fails to see the global quality of life itself. "It's more important to protect our economy..." A rising tide lifts all boats, and floods all shorelines, including ours. What does America have to benefit from climate change and ecological chaos?

This comes from too many years of referring to "The American People" as a special class of world citizens. The American People expect this, The American People deserve that, The American People resent whatever, The American People enjoy freedom ... you name it. Even on NPR, The American People are referenced frequently, as if we are some special breed. When I hear "'The American People deserve...." I finish the sentence "but the rest of the world doesn't!" Try it. It'll make you sick.
