City Council Wants to Re-Negotiate Bus Tunnel Deal

Apr 18, 2001 -- A City Council committee voted 9-0 to re-negotiate the transfer of the downtown bus tunnel to Sound Transit. Sound Transit can't use the tunnel until 2007, not 2004 as originally specified. The delay nullifies the deal, according to City Councilmember Nick Licata, who introduced the resolution, and will likely cost Sound Transit an additional $80 million. In a comment in his e-mail newsletter Urban Politics, Licata marveled, "All nine City Councilmembers attended the committee meeting. In my three-plus years on the Council, there have been less than three times when all nine members have attended a committee meeting."
