New Management at Interbay Golf Center
May 03, 2001 --
Seattle Parks and Recreation and Interbay Golf Center, 2501 15th Ave W, recently named Premier Golf Centers, LLC, to operate the facility for the next 20 months, based on Premier's knowledge of the operation and the city's goal of keeping it open to the public.
Interbay Golf Center includes a nine-hole golf course, an 80-station double-decker driving range, a pro shop, a mini-golf course and a cafe. Since opening in 1999, Interbay has become an enormously popular and affordable attraction for golfers of all ages. In 1999 alone, 346,000 patrons took advantage the conveniently located course.
However, the developer and former operator of the facility, Family Golf Centers, Inc. (FCGI), filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2000. When a New York bankruptcy court in February 2001 authorized the sale, at auction, of FCGI's assets, the City of Seattle submitted the successful bid for the management contract. The net purchase price of the contract was $4.1 million.
"We're thrilled to celebrate with Premier Golf the continuation under their leadership of the operations at this great facility," said Ken Bounds, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. "Our main objective was to keep it open to the public, and with Premier Golf's expertise, we were able to do that."
