Curt Firestone To Run for Drago's City Council Seat
Curt Firestone, City Council candidate.

May 17, 2001 --
Curt Firestone announced his candidacy for City Council on April 24. He plans to run against incumbent Jan Drago.
Drago, now in her third term on the Council, is considered a possible mayoral candidate.
Sound Transit, the energy crisis and public disconnectedness from government will be issues in Firestone's campaign. Two years ago, he got 33 percent of the vote in a spirited race against City Council President Margaret Pageler. He had wide support throughout the city, especially from community activists and labor.
Firestone said Sound Transit would be an important issue in the Council election. "Tunneling sinks Sound Transit," he said. "It's disruptive, expensive and full of unknowns."
He told The Seattle Press that recent increases in campaign contribution limits (from $400 to $600) would make his campaign more difficult.
"Somebody who could give $400 can probably give $600, but someone who only gave $300 probably couldn't give $400 and certainly couldn't give $600. I had relatively few contributors who gave the $400 maximum.
Firestone said he advocates electing City Council members by districts to help solve the problem of disconnectedness from city government cited by many voters.
Firestone said he would try to soften his campaign style a little. "I think I need to be not quite as strident in some of my public positions. But I still have progressive point of view, and that point of view needs to be added to the city council."
