May 17, 2001 -- A convenience store in Wallingford is robbed at the early hour of 4:51 a.m. on a Friday morning. A young man enters, looks around for a short time, asks some questions and then approaches the counter. He puts his hand in his jacket pocket as if he has a gun and demands money. The clerk hands over cash from the register, about $80. Then the suspect demands cigarettes. The suspect is well-dressed and appears very nervous, asking, "You're not going to call the police, are you?" The clerk replies, "I will when you leave." The suspect says, "But you don't know what I look like anyway." He is wearing a jacket and has the hood on, but the clerk can see him clearly. "Right, right, I don't know," the clerk says, playing along. He tells police the suspect's hair color and details of the man's clothing. He also points out a "Hot Pocket" sandwich that the suspect handled during his time in the store, and the wrapper is taken to be examined for prints. An area check for the suspect turns up nothing...
