Dinosaurs and a Political Picnic

Jun 13, 2001 -- The City of Seattle will officially accept the Fremont Dinosaurs at a special ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20 (the summer solstice) in Canal Park. The life-size topiary dinosaurs were evicted from their original home at Seattle Center and rescued from oblivion through the efforts of History House. They now graze at the east end of Canal Park. Landscaping was provided by Fremont Rotary volunteers. Jim Diers, head of the Department of Neighborhoods, will welcome the dinosaurs.

Also on June 20, dino fans and the general public are invited to Fremont's Annual Political Picnic, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. This year the picnic is held on Evanston Plaza, the new public space amid the Quadrant buildings, where Evanston Avenue meets the Ship Canal. The event is normally held in Gas Works Park, which is closed for repairs.

All candidates for mayor, city council, county council and other public offices are invited to attend. Speeches by candidates will be limited to three minutes, but there will be no time limit on questions from the audience.
