Ballard, West Seattle Monorail Supported
Jun 13, 2001 --
Last week, the public got a chance to weigh in on the proposed Monorail corridor choices floated by the Elevated Transportation Company (ETC). The testimony was overwhelmingly favorable for the Ballard-to-Downtown and West Seattle-to-Downtown "first phase" corridors, moving the process another step forward.
The ETC's next project will be figuring out the specific route (which streets or right-of-ways) and alignment (above, below, or beside the route) will work best.
During the ETC council meeting on Monday, June 4, the 25 or so people testifying included several representatives from neighborhood groups from Queen Anne, Uptown, Magnolia, Ballard and West Seattle who all support Monorail in their neighborhoods. Several people offered suggestions for specific routes and station locations, and the ETC council members listened carefully and asked questions.
There is still time before the July 2 cut-off date to register your comments regarding the "first phase" corridors. E-mail to comment@elevated.org, fax to (206) 262-7939 or write to Elevated Transportation Company, 701 5th Ave. #3600, Seattle, WA 98104.
