Jun 13, 2001 -- "Chock it!" hollered John Pesanti, as the Red Door Alehouse building was inched into its exact new location by two huge Peterbilt diesel trucks. The building was moved June 3 for the third time in a century to a new location at Evanston Avenue N and N 34th Street. Watching and celebrating were Mark Fellows, Pankow Builders; Michael Osterfeld, Fremont Dock Property Manager; Suzie Burke, President of Fremont Dock, which owns the building; Alpha Zinkus, Red Door owner and proprietor, his wife Maria and their son Max. The new alehouse will nearly double in size. It will have a south-facing deck the length of the building, and a family-friendly restaurant as well as a bar. The move was paid for by Security Properties, developer of the property where the tavern had stood since 1916. The new six-story apartment/retail development will reach from Fremont Avenue N to Evanston Avenue and from N. 34th Street to the alley.
