Seattle Primary Results

Sep 19, 2001 -- The September 18 primary election is over, and it looks like Paul Schell will be keeping his campaign promise to serve only one term. Contenders Greg Nickels and Mark Sidran both outpolled the sitting Mayor by more than 6,000 votes, drawing more than 20,000 apiece compared with Schell's 13,725.

In City Council races, incumbents Richard Conlin, Jan Drago and Richard McIver had strong showings over their opponents. The challengers were narrowed down to Michael Preston, Curt Firestone and Grant Cogswell in the three respective races.

Seattle's next City Attorney will be either Tom Carr or Edsonya Charles. Police Guild favorite Jim Cline was defeated after receiving 26 percent of the vote, 8 percentage points below Charles and 13 points behind Carr.

Look for in-depth coverage of these races in the pages of the Seattle Press between now and November 6.
