Sep 27, 2001 -- A Mukilteo man files a report with the Seattle Police Department, alleging that an unknown person has been using his personal information to get a charge account at a large hardware store. The suspect charged $491.41 on the day of application. He says the same thing is happening to him in several jurisdictions, not just in Seattle...

A North Seattle woman reports that someone using her name, birthdate, Social Security number and address has been obtaining store credit accounts fraudulently. She mentions Spiegel, Zales, Halsberg Jewelry, Chevron and others.

An unoccupied flatbed trailer burns at 10 p.m. on a Monday night in the parking lot of an auto parts store near 105th Street and Aurora Avenue N. There were no witnesses, but the Seattle Fire Department believes the fire was intentionally set. A store employee tells police the trailer had been in the lot for about four days and had an assortment of household items inside: a box spring, a fan, cups. The trailer and its contents was completely consumed by the fire...

At 1:31 a.m. on a Tuesday, a burglar alarm calls police to the scene of an attempted break-in at a retail store on NW 85th Street and Loyal Way NW. Officers conclude the thieves climbed on a trash container to get to a back window, which they smashed. A neighbor tells the officers that she heard a loud noise and came outside in time to see four teenagers get into a white four-door car and drive away northbound on 31st Avenue NW. The store manager arrives and finds nothing missing, but several glass merchandise items are broken. A hand-blown glass fish worth $500 and three glass water pipes worth $30 apiece were broken as they had been sitting on a shelf under the broken window. Police are unable to locate the suspect vehicle...

Sometime between 2 p.m. on a Saturday and 7 a.m. on the following Monday, unknown persons cut the chain link fence at a Ballard business and steal a black, red and silver trash pump worth $1,000. They also attempt to take the batteries out of two dump trucks but are unsuccessful...

On a Monday evening, the owner of a North Seattle auto repair shop finishes work on a car and calls the owner. When the car owner arrives at about 8:40 p.m., they quarrel over the $100 repair bill. The angry customer gets into his car and backs hard into the roll-up garage door, buckling the metal into the garage two feet, then speeds away. Police are called. Since a person inside the garage could easily have been injured by the metal door, they will charge the suspect with reckless endangerment as well as theft of $100 worth of repair services...

The janitor at a Ballard seafood restaurant calls police at 2:11 a.m. on a Tuesday to report a theft. He says he witnessed three or four men bend or cut the protective screen on the restaurant's outdoor crab tank. The group departed carrying a bucket containing an unknown number of crabs. They drove away eastbound on Seaview Avenue in a mid-sized white four-door sedan...

A University District man reports that his car was prowled between 6 p.m. on Sunday and 6:30 a.m. on Monday as it sat in the secure parking garage of his apartment building. He returned in the morning to find the drivers' side door handle damaged and a box of old Honda Civic parts missing from the trunk...

Sometime between 4:35 and 7 a.m. on a Sunday, burglars discover the spare key to a University District house where it is hidden on the back porch. They enter easily and steal a bicycle and two laptop computers...

A Greenwood couple reports that their car was prowled as it sat in the lot of a local repair shop. The tow truck driver who brought the car to the lot left the keys in the ignition, but since the car could not start it could not be driven away by the would-be car thief...

A University District man reports that, after his car was towed, the registration and proof of insurance are missing from the glove compartment. He has spoken with the towing company about it, but the items have not been located...
