Oct 25, 2001 --
Continuing an annual tradition at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, November is Day of the Dead month. This Mexican holiday is a time to remember and celebrate departed friends and family with joy. November 1 is traditionally a special time when the worlds of the living and the dead are closest and the dead can be lured back with offerings of food and drink.
The festival will feature a parade of masked performers and stiltwalkers, music and dance performances, an art show featuring personal altars created by local artists and dedicated to their loved ones and many other activities. Most events will take place between November 2 and 17, with the grand parade opening the festivities November 2 and 6:30 p.m. The parade will start at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church at 75th and Greenwood, proceeding south to the Phinney Neighborhood Center at 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Free face painting starts at 5:30 p.m. before the parade.
For complete festival information and a schedule of events, visit the Phinney Neighborhood Center or call them at 783-2244.
