Citizen Review Board to Oversee Police
Dec 06, 2001 --
After the passage of a city ordinance in March of this year, the last hurdle has finally been cleared and a new, citizen-based review panel will be formed to oversee police-related internal investigations.
The agreement was reached by negotiators for the City Council and the Seattle Police Officers' Guild. It creates an "Office of Professional Accountability Review Board," a three-member body that will work with the Office of Professional Accountability and a Review Board Auditor.
Councilmembers Nick Licata and Jim Compton welcome the additional oversight body, expressing hopes that its presence will begin to heal strained relations between the Police Department and citizens.
