Working Together at the Home Design and Remodel Fair

By Roger Faris

Jan 17, 2002 -- The Phinney Neighborhood Association is making preparations to host its fifth annual Home Design and Remodel Fair. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 3. 70 exhibitors will share examples of design, materials, special skills and ideas that can help us work together to create successful home improvement projects.

The fair will focus on environmentally friendly building practices and materials, along with solid information about building codes, permits, financing, planning and construction. Exhibitors will include architects and designers, home improvement contractors, experts in landscape design, building material suppliers and several non-profit agencies and organizations.

Special exhibits this year include a company that designs and installs solar electrical generating systems, examples of faux finish interior painting, a display of bamboo hardwood flooring and ceramic tiles that will make you think you've traveled to Italy.

The PNA Well Home Program and the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild are planning a follow-up series of classes and lectures. These will be held at the Phinney Neighborhood Center throughout 2002.

Sponsors of the fair include HomeStreet Bank, Dunn Lumber, Environmental Works, KUOW Public Radio, George W. Johnson Realtors, Greenwood True Value Hardware, Northwest EcoBuilding Guild, the Neighborhood Power Project and The Seattle Press. For more information, call the Phinney Neighborhood Center at 783-2244.
