Mar 28, 2002 -- On a Saturday at 4:30 p.m., police are called to the scene of an assault at a Northgate dry cleaning business. The proprietor tells police that a woman dropped off clothing to be cleaned, and also requested that buttons on a coat be repaired. She quoted the woman a price that included only the cost of the cleaning. The woman returned and was given her clean, repaired clothes and the new bill which included the charge for the button repair. She became upset. The proprietor explained that the extra $6.50 charge was for the labor and the buttons, and the woman became even more upset. Without provocation, she spit on the proprietor. She paid and left in an unknown direction. The proprietor gives the police officers the woman's phone number, but when they call they receive no answer...

She tells them this story: She was walking her dog on Greenwood Avenue N when she heard someone approaching behind her. She moved over and pulled her dog out of the way to allow the man to pass, and then he said, "hello." As she began to walk again, he turned around and came toward her. He began to slap her with both hands across the face. He then grabbed her and shoved her to the ground. She says he then started to unzip his pants, and she screamed loudly. Several neighbors woke up, and the man fled westbound on N 47th Street. The Fire Department arrives and treats her, but the police officers notice that she does not have any apparent injuries from being slapped and pushed to the ground. Her glasses are on her face and intact, and her clothes are not disheveled. When the medics ask her if she is on medication, she pulls out a piece of paper with a list of pharmaceuticals. She is transported to Swedish/Ballard and provided with victim follow-up information...
