The Great Seattle Monorail Column Design Competition

Apr 25, 2002 -- The Elevated Transportation Company (ETC) will hold a monorail column design competition Saturday morning, May 4. The contest is part of the 1 percent for Art program for all major public construction projects, where 1 percent of the budget must go to "art" elements. Ed Stone of the ETC comments, "Our philosophy is that ‘art’ should not be an add-on, but should be part of the essential design of the project. Hence, we are inviting public participation in possible designs of monorail columns—the columns should be aesthetically pleasing, and an addition to the streetscape."

The competition is Saturday, May 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Mezza Cafe, on the third floor of the SoDo building (Starbucks’ headquarters), 2401 S Utah St.
