September 11 Memorial Online
Jun 06, 2002 --
After the events of September 11, Seattle residents left hundreds of documents and objects, such as toy fire trucks, artwork, and homemade flags, at the base of West Seattle's Statue of Liberty replica on Alki Beach. The Log House Museum, which collects West Seattle history, gathered the materials last fall and stored them for later exhibit.
The first exhibit of that spontaneous memorial is now viewable in an online presentation created from archival photographs of the memorials. Called "Even in the Darkest Night: The 9/11 Memorials at Seattle's Lady Liberty," the presentation is a powerful multimedia experience that features West Seattle residents reading excerpts from the letters left at the statue's base.
The presentation, funded by a Small and Simple Grant and created by Seattle-based Compel Interactive and the graphic design firm Seattle Creative, can be seen at www.loghousemuseum.org. The museum plans to open a live exhibit in September.
