Fishing Fleet Readies for Summer Season

Jun 20, 2002 -- Steve Demmert, pictured, prepares the net for his purse seiner Melanie at Fishermen's Terminal net yard before heading for Southeast Alaska. a fisherman for 30 years, he hopes for a good year, saying, "The resource is strong and healthy." Demmert's vessel with its crew of four is among the large number of fish boats from the Seattle fleet which head north each June.

In other Fishermen's Terminal news, the new availability of moorage for recreational vessels is going largely unused. Fewer than five pleasure boats have tied up at Fishermen's Terminal so far.
