Ballard Farmers Market Move

Jul 18, 2002 -- Sunday visitors to Ballard may soon find their fresh produce and crafts in a new location. The Ballard Farmers Market is in the planning stages of moving to Ballard Avenue, anticipating the construction next year of a new branch library at the current location on the corner of 22nd Avenue NW and NW 57th Street.

"We have run into a "NIMBY" attitude from some business owners," said market coordinator Judy Kirkhuff. However, she added, some shop owners see the market as a potential way to get people into the area to see what the local shops have to offer.

Kirkhuff said the market is in the process of addressing merchant concerns such as neighborhood parking and keeping loading zones open during market hours. She isn't worried about the long term, she said. "Once we get a start there, we'll do just fine."

While the street use permit process is working its way through the approval process, the Ballard Sunday Market is still located at the US Bank branch parking lot. The use permit for the location is in place through the end of July.

I'm inquiring as to how to have a booth at the Ballard Sunday Market. Please advise.
