Lawsuit Filed Over Rainier Vista
Aug 01, 2002 --
Long in the planning, the new Rainier Vista project is in the final stages of getting ready to break ground. But on July 19, attorneys representing a group of Rainier Vista residents, neighbors and housing activists the Seattle Displacement Coalition filed suit to halt the project.
The group claims that the Seattle Housing Authority is violating the Fair Housing Act, because the number of replacement low-income housing units planned for Rainier Vista fails to match the number that will be demolished. The finished project will see a net loss of 171 low-income units.
