Car-Free Seattle

The second annual Car-free Seattle event will take place on Saturday, August 24. Spanning Seattle from south to north, it will kick off in Columbia City with a breakfast at 10:00 a.m. The art bike ride follows at 11:00 a.m. in the Rainier Valley Heritage Parade.
The bike ride will continue up to Capitol Hill, where the streets will be closed for the Sidewalk Chalk Day, then proceed to Fremont. Costumes and art bikes are encouraged. Skaters and bladers are welcome.
Participants can enjoy the chalk-art fun at Capitol Hill from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and a car-free party at Fremont from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Party activities include bike decorating, on-the-spot maintenance and repair tips and car-free counseling. A roller disco and stationary bike races follows in the evening, ending at midnight with an outdoor screening of the movie Breaking Away.
