Letter to the Editor: A Candidate Speaks

Sep 12, 2002 --

Dear Editor:

I found several candidate campaign signs in the 35th District “tagged” with spray paint this weekend.

Destroying campaign signs is not the way to show candidates you don’t like them. Most candidates will be seen putting up many or all of their signs themselves. Two-by-four-foot signs cost about $10 each. That’s a lot of money and effort. Some of us, myself included, have chosen to fund our campaigns almost entirely by ourselves. We can ill afford to replace signs destroyed by thoughtless people. Whether you agree or disagree with a candidate is no reason to destroy our hard work.

All people, whether they vote or not, need to show their support for candidates and issues by getting involved. That’s an excellent way to learn a lot about the election process and the people who want to be your representatives.

Frank Dare, Candidate
State Representative, 35th District, Position 1
