WHILE ATTENDING the Computers, Freedom and Privacy (CFP) Conference in New York, Deborah Pierce discovered something odd. At check-in, hotel patrons were asked to hand over government photo-IDs, which were photocopied. Reservations won’t be honored without them. Writes Pierce: “Never mind that many driver’s license numbers are tied to a person’s social security number. In the name of ‘security’ many patrons could now become victims of identity theft.” Read Pierce’s story.
